Growing readers with the support of a specialist
Individualized Instruction
All instruction is specifically tailored to each learner's specific needs and goals. Each learner is assessed using an Initial Summary of Language Evaluation that will inform and drive future instruction.
Team Approach
Collaboration and communication with parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in a student's education is a crucial component of student success. In order to keep families informed and involved, learners are sent home with activities and strategies to incorporate at home.
Science of Reading
Growing Readers utilizes the University of Florida Literacy Institute’s “UFLI Program” to implement evidence-based, explicit, systematic practices that support all learners. With a strong focus on phonemic awareness and phonics foundational skills, we are able to work towards reading fluency, vocabulary development and reading comprehension.
Experience Matters
Using both my 25 years experience as an educator as well as my journey as a parent, I will support your learner in becoming a confident, independent reader through the use of evidence based literacy instruction.
Multisensory Instruction
Each session incorporates a variety of multi-sensory activities, including tactile experiences, visual aids, auditory exercises, and kinesthetic techniques. This approach ensures that we meet the needs of all learners, helping them to store, recall, retrieve and apply crucial information.
How does it work?
Discovery Call: Schedule a free 20 minute phone call to share your concerns and your goals in hiring a reading support specialist. Ask questions and get a feel for the process and the provider.
Initial Assessment: We will schedule a Summary of Language assessment to find the learner’s strengths and areas in need of support. A report detailing the results and an instructional plan will be shared with the family.
Individualized Instruction: Each lesson will be designed to address your learner’s specific needs using evidence based literacy practices.
What does your learner need?
The Summary of Language Evaluation (SLE) initial assessment is given to ALL learners to determine the learner's strengths, areas for growth and learning goals. Based on results of the SLE, an outcomes report and proposed action plan will be generated and shared with families.

“Miryam at Growing Readers has been a lifesaver for us and our 7 year old boy who was diagnosed with dyslexia. She made us feel comfortable and was super engaged from the start. Our child enjoys working with Miryam as she makes learning fun. We started to see results immediately. Within a few months he mastered all his letter sounds, many new sight words, could read full sentences, and is now actively trying to read things on his own. Our son’s teacher was so impressed with the progress our child made while working with Miryam that she started referring other kids in the class to her. We will continue to use Miryam at Growing Readers as long as possible and are so thankful for her help.”
Jerry and Stephanie S., 1st grade parents
“As a teacher, I really enjoyed working with Miryam. She was insightful, positive and professional. Prior to working with Miryam, the student struggled with decoding, letter formation and reading. After a short time of working with Miryam, the student showed notable independence with their phonics skills and was reading decodable books. The student was always excited to work with Miryam. She was very pleasant to work with and she got quick results. I would highly recommend Miryam as a Reading Support Specialist.”
Johanna, Kindergarten Teacher
“We have tried other tutoring programs and Miryam got us the best results. Miryam developed a curriculum tailored to my daughter's needs. She was able to deliver the material in a way that made my daughter a better reader. Additionally, the environment she created meant my daughter was excited to go to tutoring multiple times a week.”
